Who
Juan Clutterbuck
I am an illusionist who combines mentalism and psychology to open up a space of wonder and reflection.
I'm an illusionist who works from an unusual place: psychology and the reading of people. I'm less interested in the trick and more in the conversation the trick opens up.
I began studying mentalism as a teenager and never stopped. Over time I understood that the interesting part isn't appearing to read minds, but what happens afterwards: you're left thinking about how your own thinking works.
Today I combine that training with years of performances for companies such as Santander, COPE, Atani, Backpack and Grupo El Escondite, alongside hundreds of private events. Every show is built around the real audience in front of me: no two shows are ever the same.
My aesthetic reference is Derren Brown and my ethical reference is never to deceive. The difference is no small thing.

The essentials, in a few lines.
Who is Juan Clutterbuck?
Juan Clutterbuck is an Argentine mentalist and psychological illusionist based in Madrid, Spain. What is a mentalist?
A mentalist is a performer who creates the illusion of reading minds, predicting or influencing decisions. To do so, they combine psychology, observation, non-verbal communication, suggestion and illusion techniques. A mentalist has no supernatural powers, and a good one never claims to.
What is the difference between a mentalist and a magician?
A magician works mainly with objects: cards, coins, appearances. A mentalist works with the audience’s mind: thoughts, memories, decisions and reactions. That makes mentalism more personal, and it usually gets guests talking more.
Does he use hypnosis in his shows?
Yes. He performs stage hypnosis always with consenting volunteers, without humiliating anyone and adapting the intensity to the audience. The person stays in control at all times.
Where does he perform, and in which languages?
He is based in Madrid and performs across Spain and at international events. The show can be in Spanish, in English or for mixed audiences, adapted in real time.
